Sonny Side Alleyway
The Sonny Side Alley project involved the transformation of an underutilized alleyway into a dynamic, multi-functional public performance space in downtown Decatur
The BCA team developed solutions to work around many challenges, including ways to maintain access to the many existing utilities in the alley. The space incorporates durable hardscape elements, limestone seat walls, park benches, and custom lighting. A custom slide and rebuilt staircase at the northern end, public art, and extensive landscaping help create an accommodating space for gatherings and performances. Additional enhancements include improved accessibility at the street-level southern entrance adjacent to public parking.
